Google says that as of August 31, 2026, Search Console's generative AI performance reports and a new AI feature control are available to all websites worldwide. Site owners can see how often their pages appeared in AI Overviews, AI Mode and AI features in Discover. For Taiwanese SMEs, part of the question of whether Google's AI uses your website can now be checked directly.
1. What happened
According to a June 3 post on the Google Search Central Blog, Google launched generative AI performance reports for Search and Discover, first for a subset of websites as a test. The post explains that this data was already counted in the overall performance report, and that a dedicated view has been added. A later note says that as of August 31, 2026, the reports are available to all websites worldwide.
The report shows five things: impressions (how often your URLs appeared in AI features), pages, countries, devices (Search results only) and dates, viewable hourly, daily, weekly or monthly. Search Engine Roundtable reported on September 1 that the report has no click or query data, and that sites without enough data may not see it.
In a June 3 post on its official blog, Google also described the new control, which likewise reached all websites worldwide on August 31. Site owners can choose whether their site appears in AI Overviews, AI Mode and AI features in Discover, and whether their content can be used to generate responses. Google states that sites that opt out will not receive traffic or impressions from these AI features, and that the control is not used for ranking outside them.
| Item | Available | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Impressions | Yes | How often your URLs appeared in AI features |
| Pages | Yes | Which URLs appeared in AI features |
| Countries, devices, dates | Yes | Devices only for Search results |
| Clicks | No | Per reports, no click data for now |
| Queries | No | Per reports, no query data for now |
2. What it means for SMEs in Taiwan
Our view: before, the only way to know whether your site showed up in Google's AI Overviews was to search question by question yourself. Now Search Console at least shows which pages AI features used and in which countries. For companies that maintain website content, this is a practical starting point.
But it only covers Google's own AI features, not how ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity or Claude answer, and it has no query data, so you don't know what customers asked. We also don't recommend opting out just because you are worried about traffic, because opting out means no exposure from these AI features. Look at the data before you decide.
3. What you can do now
- Sign in to Search Console and look for the generative AI view under the performance report; if your site isn't verified yet, verify it first.
- Note which pages currently appear in AI features, and compare once a month.
- For important pages that don't appear, such as service pages and FAQs, check whether they directly answer the questions customers ask.
- Beyond Google, check ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Claude regularly with a fixed set of questions and compare over time.
- Leave the AI control on its include setting unless you have a clear reason not to appear in AI features.
The short version
Search Console now shows your site's exposure in Google's AI features; make it a number you check every month, alongside checks on other AI platforms.
